According to the latest report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India ranks fourth among the countries with the highest spending on defence.
India has purchased the highest number of military equipment in the world in the last five years.
The recent budget presented in Parliament also highlighted the importance given to the defence sector.
For the year 2024-25, a sum of Rs. Of the Rs 48 lakh crore budget, the defence sector has the highest amount of Rs. Rs 6,22,000 crore, or about 13 per cent, has been allocated.
Analysts say that like last year, this financial year’s budget has also made defence sector allocations keeping China and Pakistan in mind.
Journalist Prateek Mukane said India is giving priority to its military modernisation keeping its neighbours in mind.
