Former Us President Donald Trump has raised questions over the racial identity of Kamala Harris, who is running for president in the next election. At a recent black journalists’ conference, Trump questioned the black and Indian identity of Kamala Harris.
“Kamala Harris, who is in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, until recently stressed her Asian-American heritage. Now she’s turned black,” Trump said.
“I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago. Now she’s calling herself black,” Trump said at a conference of the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago.
“Is she an Indian or a black woman? I don’t know,” Trump said.
Kamala Harris responded to Trump’s comments.
“Trump’s old-fashioned divisive and disrespectful behaviour,” she said.
Kamala Harris said the American people should be better off.
She was speaking at a meeting of the black women’s organisation Sigma Gama Ro. “We need a leader who understands that our differences do not separate us,” he said.
Kamala Harris is the first American vice president to have both black and Asian heritage.
Her roots are in India and Jamaica.
Kamala studied at Howard University.
It is one of the most populous universities in the United States where blacks study.
Harris was elected a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) after moving to the Senate in 2017.
