Plane crashes in Brazil, killing 61 people, not a single person surviving

At least 61 people were killed when a plane crashed in São Paulo, Brazil.

The twin-engine turboprop plane was en route from Kascavel in Parana state to Gourul Hose Airport in the city of São Paulo when it crashed in the town of Winhedo, Opas Airlines said in a statement.

In the videos circulating on social media, the plane can be seen whirling in the air and falling.

There were 57 passengers and four crew members on board the ATR 72-500 aircraft that crashed. Local authorities said none of them survived.

In the middle of the houses.

The plane crashed in the middle of the settlements in Winhedo. Officials said a house in the local condominium complex was damaged.

A video of the accident has gone viral. It appears that there are many houses in the area. After the plane fell down, there was a fire and smoke coming out. Police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident.

Officials said the flight recorders have been seized. French-Italian aircraft maker ATR said it would cooperate with the investigation.

When did it happen?

The flight took off from Cascawell at 8:30 pm (11:56 local time) on Friday, according to ‘Flight Radar24’, a website that tracks flights. About an hour and a half later, the last signal was received from the plane.

The aircraft, which was built in 2010, is “in good condition” along with a valid registration and a certificate of safety to fly, brazil’s civil aviation agency said.

It said the four crew members on board were properly licensed and had proper qualifications. Two trainee doctors were among the passengers who died, the Yupeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel told BBC Brazil.

It turned around and fell: Locals

“I heard the sound of the plane falling and looked up from the window of our house. It appeared to have collapsed,” Felipe Magalhes told Reuters news agency. He said the scene was frightening.

“We were having lunch when I heard a loud noise very close by. It was like the sound of a drone. But it’s too big,” Nathalie Sicari, another resident, told CNNBrasil news agency.

“I saw from the balcony as the plane spun around. I have realised that it is not the way the plane normally rotates,” he said.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva paid homage to the victims and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims. São Paulo Governor Tarcio Gomes de Freitas has declared a three-day mourning.

In 2007, 199 people were killed when a TAM Express plane crashed at Congon haas airport in São Paulo. It was the deadliest plane crash in Brazil since then.
